Laying the Foundation for Total Health
Chiropractic care is like building a house — certain things have to be built in a particular order for it to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body — it has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully.
3 General Phases of Chiropractic Care
Relief Care
If you are in pain or have some type of health concern, the objectives are to correct the underlying chiropractic problem and to help you feel better. Depending on the severity and on how long you’ve had your health issues, it is typical to be seen more often in this beginning phase of care.
Corrective or Restorative Care
During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury. Typically, most of the symptoms have decreased or subsided. The doctor and patient work together to stabilize the spine and to train it to stay in alignment for longer periods of time.
Wellness Care
Once your body has fully healed, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. Usually, this only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor and is based on your lifestyle and goals.
What to Expect During Your First Visit
Dr. Peterson is actively accepting new patients and looks forward to the opportunity of serving the community through chiropractic care. Beginning your wellness journey with Peterson Chiropractic is simple — this is what to expect during your first visit.
New Patient Forms
Before your first visit, we request that you print and complete our new patient forms in order to save you time when you get to the office. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your condition.
Consultation
Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Laura Peterson to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for Dr. Peterson to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Laura Peterson will perform a complete chiropractic evaluation including postural, neurological, and orthopedic exams to determine a proper diagnosis. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
X-Ray Studies
Depending on your condition, Dr. Laura will determine the necessity for X-rays. If needed, she will refer patients to a nearby imaging center.
Diagnosis
After reviewing your health history, goals, X-rays (if needed), and examining your spine, Dr. Peterson will determine the best treatment and wellness program for your needs and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers.
Treatment
After consenting to care, Dr. Laura will perform a manual chiropractic adjustment that is specific to each patient, by applying gentle pressure to the area needed and creating movement to the vertebrae in order to restore range of motion, relieving pain, and restoring function.
Follow-Up Care
Following the adjustment, Dr. Laura will give her recommendations for short- and long-term care. She will advise a treatment plan tailored to each individual as well as provide resources and recommendations for at home/work care. This includes exercises, stretches, proper ergonomics, and dos/don’ts for activities of daily living.
